Susie Y. Wong

A recognized political and policy strategist for two decades, Wong combines a deep knowledge of economic development, environmental and business regulations with well-honed judgment to help business and communities achieve the triple bottom line: social, environmental and financial.  

Wong has worked extensively in the executive branches of California State Government. She served in Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s administration as a director and special advisor at California Environmental Protection Agency, Deputy Director of External Affairs at the Department of Toxic Substances Control and Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the former Department of Corporations.

Wong advises clients across all sectors on issues such as politics, policy, regulatory matters, climate change, clean tech and renewable energy, business and infrastructure development, bonds and financing issues. 

Throughout Wong’s career, she has led organizations on complex business, energy and environmental issues, disputes, compliance challenges and funding.  

She also helps clients understand California’s increasingly complex climate change laws, funding opportunities, renewable energy and transportation technology, and environmental justice.

A recognized leader on Asian Pacific American for ally recruitment and building grassroots coalition, Wong was participated on the leadership team during Governor Schwarzenegger’s administration on Asian Pacific American outreach.  She has presented at national conferences sponsored by government agencies, industry associations and nonprofits on diversity, multicultural outreach and engagement.

Wong is founder and president of Asians in Energy, which leads Asian Pacific Americans on energy issues and policies, an Advisory Board Member and Past President of the Asian Pacific State Employees Association Foundation, the co-founder of the Sacramento Regional Coalition for Tolerance, a member of the FBI-sponsored InfraGard energy sector, and more.  

For her work on California’s 2001 energy crisis, Wong was awarded with the State Information Officers’ Council highest award for her Home Depot/State of California “Flex Your Power” partnership. She is a former TV, radio and print anchor, reporter and news writer.

Representative Experience

  • At California Environmental Protection Agency, responsible for the accounting of $450 million in federal stimulus funds for cleaner water, buses, trains and Superfund sites.

  • At Caltrans, responsible for launching in record time the East Bay-Bay Bridge Bond and Loan Guarantee Program to incentivize economic development.

  • As a Caltrans highway construction contract appeals official, responsible for $437 million of prime contractor’s appeals on $7 billion construction of the San Francisco—Oakland Bay Bridge construction project, in addition to all appeals spanning three-years.

  • Providing advice, counsel and public relations to corporations and startup businesses on licensing, permitting and regulatory issues, including leveraging state government multiprogram and multidiscipline funding sources.

  • Providing funding advice and counsel for housing development and infrastructure improvements to City of Sacramento Del Paso Heights area, San Francisco Chinatown Community Development Center, and others, on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in low-income and disadvantaged communities.

  • Providing latest developments on energy issues and policy to stakeholders through annual Asians in Energy conferences, events and government, business and community partnerships.
